(PRWEB) February 18, 2001

San Jose, Calif. – Home cardio kickboxing workouts are in demand but not many organizations have been able to produce a workout that is effective, fun, entertaining, and conscious of safety issues such as preventing injuries to your knees, lower back, and providing low impact options.

Eversley Forte is setting new standards for kickboxing workouts in the Cardio Athletic Kickbox® Total Body Home Workout Video Series and international training program. The Cardio Athletic Kickbox Video Series offer a program that is fun, energizing, and for men and women of various fitness levels. It is an invigorating workout incorporating kicks, punches, elbows and knees used in martial arts and boxing together with effective athletic drills. Safety tips, low impact and lower intensity options are given throughout the workout, which allow participants to “play hard” but also to “play safe”. This is important since the Cardio Athletic Kickbox videos are intended for “regular” people to use at home.

The videos even caught the attention of lawyers representing Billy Blanks and Tae-Bo®. They made ludicrous claims, which they apparently did not investigate thoroughly. “Their claims had no merit and Behind The Scenes Fitness responded accordingly,” said Eversley Forte, creator of the Cardio Athletic Kickbox workout. Following the response, the lawyers discontinued any contact with Behind The Scenes Fitness.

In 1994, Eversley Forte first introduced the Cardio Athletic Kickbox workout in Northern California. It is now taught throughout the United States, Europe and South Africa. Ecofit, a Group Fitness Certification Organization with divisions in Germany and South Africa, has teamed up with Behind the Scenes Fitness to promote Cardio Athletic Kickbox in Europe. A number of instructor courses were conducted in Germany, and Kit van Blerk, CEO of Ecofit, says “Many of the instructors who completed the Cardio Athletic Kickbox training, felt it safer and more fun than other kickbox training programs.”

“In the videos, Eversley delivers a great cardiovascular and fat burning workout while demonstrating great form and technique,” said Anne Wilde, Director of the South Bay Instructor Training School.

Karen Clark, Group Exercise Director at Supreme Court 1 Athletic Club in Sunnyvale, CA said, “Eversley’s Cardio Athletic Kickboxing classes give our members the opportunity for a fun and challenging workout. Eversley presents an exciting, quality class from start to finish. He knows how to challenge the advanced students, keep beginning students involved, and enables everybody to have a good time in the process.”

Behind the Scenes Fitness was founded by Eversley Forte and is recognized by the American Council on Exercise as a Continuing Education Specialist, and is the sponsor of the “Kickboxing Fitness” manual released by the American Council on Exercise for group fitness instructors and trainers. For more information about the Cardio Athletic Kickbox videos, Eversley Forte, training program and team members, or tour dates, call 408-244-4895 or visit http://www.homekickboxing.com.

New York, NY (PRWEB) September 22, 2003

To meet the physical demands of pro, collegiate and high school football players, ATX Athlete Nutrition Technology launches its Football formula. A unique combination of 20+ ingredients, ATX Football Formula was developed using a patent-pending process, Functional Physiomics™.

To inaugurate the launch, athletes of the Parisi Speed School NFL Combine program — which trains top college football players for the NFL Combine — will use ATX Football Formulas. Martin Rooney, Director of the Parisi Speed School, says “Our Combine program delivers the top results in the nation year after year. We’re always looking to improve the program, and eager to add the ATX Football supplement to our nutrition component. It’s designed for the specific rigors of football, a great complement to our training.”

Football is characterized by repeated maximum-intensity exercise and concentrated impact on the joints and soft tissues. Mindful of this, ATX scientists consulted the sports medicine literature and interviewed trainers, strength coaches and professional athletes to identify football-specific needs. After collecting and analyzing this information, ATX developed a physiological “fingerprint” of the football player, and then chose natural ingredients that promote performance while training and competing.

According to Richard Lebovitz, Ph.D., chief ATX Scientist, “Muscle mass and strength is the top concern of football players, so we targeted organs and metabolic pathways important for football. ATX Football formula aims to maintain pools of muscle glycogen – energy utilized by muscle cells – and promote the energy capacity of muscle.” He adds “A strong, healthy heart is necessary to maintain adequate blood-oxygen levels and keep the tissues well-fed. For this we included ingredients including Ginkgo, L-carnitine, and others, and for increased stamina we added Panax Ginseng, Taurine, B-vitamins, and ingredients that act synergistically. ATX’s Football formula is designed to help maintain alertness and joint flexibility, as well as boost metabolism.”

ATX Football Formula will be available through professional trainers and strength coaches.

(PRWEB) October 17, 2003

Atlanta, GA,(PRWEB) October 15, 2003—Bumps and bruises after a long game of football or soccer may be a sign of drive and determination among young athletes, but a recent study reveals that small craniocerebral mishaps in kids’ sports could mean long-term neurological problems. A report in Pediatric Emergency Medicine Reports notes that continuous sports-related head injuries, improperly managed, could result in chronic pain, paralysis and even death for young athletes.

According to report co-author, Dr. Don Penney, “Bouncing a ball and launching a season’s worth of defensive tackles could lead to extensive injuries if symptoms are overlooked by coaches, athletic trainers or parents,.” Penney a Georgia spine surgeon and expert in treating rare neurological diseases, teamed up with Dr. Ronald M. Perkin, a Professor and Chairman of Pediatrics at East Carolina University to present the report focused specifically on pediatric athletic head injuries.

“More than 300,000 sports-related head injuries occur each year nationwide, most of them among younger athletes,” says Penney. “Elementary and high school players suffer mild to moderate concussions and moderate brain injuries but because players appear to be functioning normally, many coaches and trainers inadvertently ignore crucial symptoms that could indicate substantial injury to the brain or spine.”

Symptoms common to brain injuries include dizziness, ringing ears, blurred vision, loss of balance and confusion.

According to Penney, the first step to avoiding long-term brain trauma in young athletes is to recognize these signs. “Children with mild head injuries comprise up to 93% of all head-injuries admitted to the hospital,” says Penney. “It is imperative that trainers and coaches properly identify the severity of a child’s head injury and provide appropriate medical management before clearing a player to return to competition.”

Trained in Toronto and at McGill University in Montreal, the Canadian-born spine surgeon annually treats more than 200 patients with spine injuries at Gwinnett Neurosurgical, just north of Atlanta.

While attending McGill, Penney began teaching neuroanatomy, histology and gross anatomy to medical students. Some of his students were young athletes who kept up with rigorous training routines that often resulted in continuous trauma to the brain and spine.

“This study provides detailed guidelines for categorizing the severity of head-injury cases, taking into consideration a child’s brain and how continuous injuries impact development,” says Penney. “Our conclusions suggest that proper assessment of even the slightest brain injury on the field could reduce the risk of long-term injuries and possibly reduce the risk of fatality among young athletes.”

Penney also encourages coaches and athletic trainers to refrain from allowing players to return to the game until all possible symptoms of mild to moderate injuries have been ruled out.

A member of the American Medical Association, American Board of Emergency Medicine, and the Georgia Neurosurgical Society, Penney is currently Professor of Emergency Medicine at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta. He is also on the teaching staff at the Cook County Hospital in Chicago, where he annually donates time to treat indigent patients.

San Marcos, CA (PRWEB) December 30, 2003

Numerous authorities have blamed TV and video games as one of the major causes of the decline in physical activity among our youth. Countless hours in front of the TV, video games, and computer virtually guarantees a pattern of inactivity that causes weight gain. The problem is that the habits they’re forming now, last a lifetime.

What is a concerned parent to do?

One option is to call Clark Bartram, an ISSA Certified Fitness Trainer specializing in working with young clients, who uses Sony playstations to get kids in shape!

“Kids between 8 and 14 don’t want to be thrown into what I call the ‘stinky diaper pit’, littered with small children while their parents are working out, says Clark Bartram, proud father of two and owner of International Fitness. “That’s why I treat them the way they want to be treated, so we invested in lifecycles attached to Sony playstations. The only way they can keep playing is if they keep pedaling, making it fun for them to exercise.”

Clark is the owner of a 7,500 square foot gym in San Marcos, CA, a city just northeast of San Diego. He trains dozens of kids after school and on weekends. During the day he works with adults looking to improve their health, bodybuilders, and competitive athletes from most sports.

“Latest reports suggest that one out of two kids do not get the 30-60 minutes of daily physical activity they need,” says Dr. Sal Arria, Executive Director of the International Sports Sciences Association, a Fitness Education company based in Santa Barbara, California. “This decline in activity is directly responsible for the ominous rise of childhood obesity, Type II diabetes and countless other health maladies attacking our youth,” Dr. Arria went on to say.

“Personal trainers specializing in Youth Fitness, hold the key to changing young kids lives forever,” Dr. Arria said, “We know that the habits they develop now will last a lifetime and Clark is leading the way for all personal trainers and health clubs around the country to

take care of our kids.”

“Working with young clients is not like training little adults; a valuable lesson I learned while studying the YFT – ISSA Youth Fitness Trainer course,” reports Clark, “I continue my education to give the absolute best service I can provide to each and every client. It really makes a difference in our gym’s reputation.”

Dr. Arria went on to say, “We’re proud to be the organization who trains the trainers, but more proud that our members like Clark, are truly making a difference in the health and lives of hundreds of thousands of people, young and old. If our kids are our future, we’ve got to help them develop the right health habits at a young age or our future is guaranteed to be the most obese, sickly, group of adults our nation has ever had.”

6 STEPS TO PREVENT YOUR CHILD FROM BEING INJURED IN SPORTS

Ann Arbor, MI Are your children at risk for injury by dangerous sporting practices and policies that currently exist in your area or at your child’s school? The answer is – YES.

It has been estimated that twelve million student athletes, aged 5-22, will seek health care, both in emergency rooms and in private physicians offices, for sports related injuries this year in the United States.

“Almost EVERY ONE of these injuries can be prevented,” says Dr. David Janda, M.D., author of The Awakening of a Surgeon: A Family Guide to Preventing Sports Injuries and Death.

An orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Janda directs the Institute for Preventative Sports Medicine. Studies show that Dr. Janda’s findings have prevented

1.7 million injuries, and saved the United States two billion in health care costs.

To help you prevent your child from being injured in sports, Dr. Janda shares six steps you can take to ensure their safety.

1. Take your child in for a preparticipation physical exam.

2. Make sure coaches are certified and well versed in CPR.

3. Make certain coaches are knowledgeable in conditioning and training techniques for your child’s age group.

4. Be sure your child is wearing well-fitted and up-to-date equipment.

5. Keep recreational sport equipment stored in a safe place so younger children do not inadvertently hurt themselves.

6. Take time to occasionally monitor your child’s practices and make sure they are safe from a physical and psychological standpoint.

Albany, NY (PRWEB) February 24, 2004

A woman’s wedding is an event that she has planned for many years, often since childhood. The day marks a significant change in her life, and many women are faced with the challenge of looking their absolute best when they walk down that aisle. Now a company located near Albany is offering conditioning programs geared directly toward this market.

Nathan Mosher, owner of Pinnacle Performance in Troy, has been a conditioning coach and trainer for over 5 years. He has vast experience in corporate fitness, personal training, and sports performance training, but has recently turned his attention to an under-represented market – the modern bride.

“I was recently married myself, so I know first-hand that many women are focused on looking their best on their wedding day”, said Mosher. “They are tanning, trying to diet, and in many cases working out for the first time to ‘get buff’ for when they put on that wedding dress. I realized that conditioning services that are geared toward athletes, who want to maximize results in minimum time, would also be useful to future brides.”

Mosher started Pinnacle Performance last year to primarily train athletes. However, he has recently expanded his services to one-on-one training, and now hopes to work with future brides. He is certified as a Strength and Conditioning Coach and Personal Trainer with the top certification organization in the country – the National Strength and Conditioning Association. He is also a full-time student at The Sage Graduate School working on his doctorate degree in physical therapy.

“I researched the local fitness scene and noticed that specialized training for brides was missing in this area. I decided that the techniques and workouts that an athlete might use for better sports performance are, in many cases, the same methods that would be useful for women”, notes Mosher.

But what about the long-term commitment that is usually associated with working with a personal trainer? After all, many brides are on a tight budget and training expenses can pile up quickly. Mosher has considered this, and feels he has a plan that might ease the financial burden.

“I will only be offering two- and three-month packages, tops. We would only work together for the last couple of months before the wedding date, and after that, the contract is complete”, says Mosher. “This way you are not locked into a long-term contract for sessions that you might not be able to afford or need.”

And he has even thought of the experienced workout enthusiasts among the “buff brides”.

“I want to offer on-line training shortly, where women may sign up and receive training advice and structure through e-mail, without having a trainer next to them. This gives the more advanced client the opportunity to maximize her results for a reduced cost.”

And that’s not all. Mosher also has plans for an e-book outlining many of the methods and tips that he has accumulated over the years. He hopes to have that available by early summer.

The in-person training with Mosher is currently available, and the on-line training will be available within a few months. Mosher may be reached by e-mail at: ndmosher@pinnacleperformancesport.com or by calling 518-271-9422.

BOSTON, MA (PRWEB) March 12, 2004 -

– On March 26-28, 2004, the Gay & Lesbian Athletics Foundation (GLAF) will present their second annual conference for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgendered enthusiasts. Last year they hosted their first conference called the National Gay & Lesbian Athletics Conference at MIT. They will be returning to MIT to host the conference, but have added “International” to the title of the conference and packed the schedule with three full days of events. Registration and a preliminary program are available on the website http://www.GLAF.org.

Last year’s conference was well attended and sparked the cohesion of the LGBT athletic community. According to Mac Chinsomboon, Executive Director of the Gay & Lesbian Athletics Foundation, the conference was “vital in working to dispel the myth that gays and sports don’t mix and to foster an understanding between people who share a love of the game that transcends sexual orientation.” He feels that last year’s conference was successful in “providing a place where athletes, educators and spectators alike had the opportunity to explore how to achieve this effectively through creating a network and a community.”

This year, the focus of the conference is aptly summed up in it’s title “Taking on the Challenge.” Rob Jagnow, Content Director for the conference says, “Last year we had everyone that supports LGBT athletes involved in identifying and discussing the obstacles to eliminating homophobia in athletics. This year the content is focused on how to best address those issues and how to take action as a community.”

This year’s focus and intent in direction is shown in the increase in information and activities at the conference. Jagnow explained that, “last year we had several round table discussions on Friday evening for sport leaders, the majority of our panels occurred Saturday, and only one keynote and athletic event were held on Sunday. This year the round table congress will take up a full day on Friday, and the panels and keynotes will fill Saturday and Sunday.” In addition, Outsports.com announced that they are hosting a sports game show at the conference.

Chinsomboon believes the full schedule is what’s attracting people to attend the conference; “We’re expecting over 500 attendees from around the world.”

The push for leadership, networking, and action will kick-off with the Friday Sports Leadership Congress, a sub-component of the conference, and the sporting groups represented will have meetings on the day prior, Thursday.

The Sports Leadership Congress last year was heavily attended. “There was standing room only; the discussion had an incredible energy” said Ross, a conference attendee. This year’s full-day Congress will serve as a precursor for the Conference. The Congress is designed to be a support network and information session for those involved with running and starting a sport league; it serves as an effective forum for sports leaders to learn from each other.

The panels cover topics of interest for all the groups involved in the athletics community. One panel, sponsored by National Association for Girls & Women in Sport (NAGWS), a division of the American Alliance for Health and Physical Education Recreation and Dance (AAHPERD), will cover the physical and sociological benefits to coming out. A similarly minded academia panel with a presentation of papers will be sponsored by the Center for Lesbian and Gay Studies (CLAGS). The Women’s Sports Foundation (WSF) is co-sponsoring a panel on diversity in sport with the Northeastern University’s Center for the Study of Sport in Society. The National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) is the content sponsor for a panel for those involved with collegiate athletics. High school athletes and their issues addressing homophobia in sports will be addressed on a similar panel. Appropriately enough, in the current political climate, the National Center for Lesbian Rights (NCLR) will be sponsoring the panel on LGBT legal rights. Finally, GLAF themselves are bringing back last year’s popular Olympics athletes panel that will feature several out, Olympic medalists and spokespeople from the US Olympic Committee.

GLAF is also bringing back the popular Health and Wellness Expo. Doctors David Chen and Lee Wolfer, GLAF Medical Directors, are working to greatly expand the health, wellness, and sports clinics designed for everyone from ‘weekend warriors’ to athletic pros. Last year, GLAF offered complimentary massages and acupuncture. This year the Expo will be sponsored by Fenway Community Health and the Boston University Center for Athletics Enhancement. The Expo will run concurrently with the conference and feature sports clinics, professional demonstrations, and sponsor tables that still have a few openings.

The conference hopes to address the interests of all the different groups involved with athletics. “Homophobia in sports doesn’t just affect athletes,” states Chinsomboon, “It also affects coaches, administrators, trainers, parents, and doctors; governing sport groups, professional leagues and the media have a big part in directing those effects.”

Chinsomboon goes on to add, “The conference is not just about fulfilling the needs of gay athletes. It’s also about fostering leadership and positive role models for youth.”

This year’s conference follows on the heels of what was “universally hailed as a stunning success last year.” The event was covered by a number of media groups, including ESPN, Sports Illustrated, HBO Real Sports, Boston Globe, Atlanta Journal-Constitution, and other notable LGBT and mainstream press. During the weekend of pending war with Iraq, the event still attracted over 300 attendees from the recreational, Olympic, international, professional, high school, and collegiate communities, with more than 20 colleges, over 27 states, and 5 countries represented (GLAF expects over 500 this year). GLAF announced post-conference that, “We have received feedback from the attendees complimenting the professionalism and attention to detail, the content, the food, the committees, and the diversity.”

Chinsomboon says that he hopes the conference will continue to attract a diverse group of attendees through the panel topics and noteworthy speakers. All of these components promise to add up to a lively conference with excellent discussions as well as progress in the issues that concern LGBT members of sport communities and impact society as a whole.
